Palaeontologist Mary Anning discovered the very first Plesiosaurus in Early Jurassic rocks in England, in 1823. Plesiosaurus was a marine reptile with a small head, a long, slender neck, and a broad turtle-like body. It had two pairs of large paddles to move through its watery habitat.
